Alan Kelly to meet Longboat Quay residents as Council offers support

The Minister for the Environment Alan Kelly is to meet with owners and residents of the Longboat Quay complex in Dublin today.

Last week, 900 residents were told they would be facing evacuation from the docklands apartments over fire safety concerns.

Minister Kelly has already said a package is being worked on to help those at the centre of the controversy.

Meanwhile, Dublin City Council last night passed an emergency motion to ensure Longboat Quay residents are not forced to pay for remedial works at the complex.

The cost has been estimated at €4m, with €2m still to be financed by management and the apartment owners.

The Council's decision will not have any legal effect, but Sinn Féin Councillor Chris Andrews said it would help keep up the pressure.

"The motion will keep it focused in the media…It's something that we're going to keep working on and try to bring about a speedy resolution," he said.
