Justice Minister Dermot Ahern has warned abusers whose actions are revealed in today's "Murphy" report that "justice, even where it may be delayed, will not be denied".

Mr Ahern said: "A collar will protect no criminal."

He appealed for anyone who may have information which could help bring the perpetrators of abuse to come forward to gardaí.

He also expressed regret for any failings of State agencies, including the Gardaí, to pursue allegations of abuse during the period covered by the report.

The Justice Minister said he felt a sense of revulsion and anger when he read the report.

Mr Ahern said Gardaí are establishing special contact arrangements for people to come forward with any new information about abusers.

He said the people who committed the dreadful crimes detailed in the report will continue to be pursued.

Minister Ahern says the report details how the Church failed to deal with abusers and everything is being done to protect children in the future.
