AGSI boss 'faces criminal investigation' if he continues protest
The head of the Garda Representative Association has said he fears losing control of the anger of rank-and-file members.
Meanwhile, a Garda Sergeant has revealed he faces a criminal investigation for his role in the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors.
It comes as a small number of gardaí take their opposition to pay cuts under Croke Park II to the Dáil.
A small group of Gardaí from the GRA and AGSI are carrying placards and marching outside the Dáil on Kildare Street.
However General Secretary of the GRA, PJ Stone, is not so sure he can keep such control of the thousands of members around the country.
Mr Stone said: "I would be very afraid that the Garda Representative Association might not be able to control the anger and the great deal of frustration that is emanating from meetings across the country."
AGSI boss, John Redmond, said he has been warned about his protesting, including that he faces a criminal inquiry.
Mr Redmond said: "I was told in no uncertain terms that if I didn't desist from what I was doing that I would be open to criminal investigation under Section 59 of the Garda Act, and further to that I would be open to discipline if I continued what I was doing."
However, he has vowed to continue to represent the 2,000 Garda Sergeants and Inspectors saying "let's see where this goes".
