Aer Lingus flight returns to Dublin Airport due to 'technical fault'

An Aer Lingus flight with 181 passengers en route to Portugal has made an emergency landing at Dublin Airport.

Flight EI490 was minutes into its journey to Faro when pilots reported a fault in one of the engines and turned back.

It is the third incident involving an Aer Lingus plane in the last week after a flight out of New York’s JFK to Shannon had to turn back over hydraulic issues while a flight to Munich on Saturday also had to return to Dublin.

The airline described the latest issue as a technical fault with reports of vibrations being felt from one of the engines.

The flight took off at 6.20am and was back in Dublin by 7.06am.

Aer Lingus said: “Emergency services were in attendance as a precaution. All 181 passengers were disembarked safely and will be flown to Faro later this morning.

“We do not anticipate any further disruption to our schedule as a result.”
