Adams 'likely' to be released this evening

It is being reported that Gerry Adams is likely to be released from custody this evening.

The PSNI have been holding the Sinn Féin President for questioning since Wednesday in connection with the murder of Jean McConville in 1972.

It is understood a file will be sent to the Public Prosecution Service in the North.

It comes as the party's policing spokesperson Gerry Kelly spoke to Mr Adams and his legal team this afternoon.

Mr Kelly says that the PSNI have been questioning Mr Adams on "open source material".

He said: "They (the PSNI) have been producing photographs that might be 40 years old and that are in the public arena. They have actually been referring to a book that is out now 20 years and newspaper articles that are decades old."
