Adams: Details of controversial expulsion will follow after appeals

Sinn Féin said it will reveal the details of why the party expelled one Cork councillor and suspended another, but only once the appeals process is complete.

The party has so far remained silent on why they took the disciplinary action against Councillors Kieran McCarthy and Melissa Mullane.

The move prompted up to 70 of its cumman members in Cobh and Mallow to quit.

Party leader Gerry Adams said the councillors had been aware the review was taking place.

"There could be an appeal process - then of course, we'll set out our reasons," he said, adding that more than 60 people had been involved in contributing to the investigation by the four-person review panel.
