Adams backs calls for public inquiry into 'Frontline' debate
Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams has today voiced his support for a public inquiry into the RTÉ 'Frontline' presidential debate.
Defeated candidate Sean Gallagher has written to Communications Minister Pat Rabbitte calling for an investigation, raising concerns about trustworthiness and impartiality at RTÉ.
It follows weekend allegations that a researcher on the program urged an audience member to ask Sean Gallagher a question about his job creation record.
Last week, the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland found Seán Gallagher was treated unfairly because of an incorrectly-attributed tweet on the final TV debate.
Speaking at Leinster House this morning, Mr Adams said that he supports calls for an inquiry into the program.
"Well, I certainly support transparency, particularly of a public broadcast provider," he said.
"There are lots of issues about public broadcasting which Sinn Féin would take issue with, going back over a long time, in terms of balance.
"So, yes, I think a public inquiry and more transparency, because the taxpayers are paying for this service, is required."
