A Malawian man has been arrested at Dublin Airport in connection with cigarette smuggling.

A Malawian man has been arrested at Dublin Airport in connection with cigarette smuggling.

Officers from Revenue's Customs Service seized 16,600 cigarettes with an estimated retail value of over €7,500 in the baggage of a 29-year-old man who had arrived on a flight from Dubai.

The Benson and Hedges cigarettes, which represent a potential loss to the exchequer of €4,731, were concealed in the man's baggage.

He has appeared in court this afternoon where he was remanded in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court on Wednesday.
