.7,215 mobiles have been confiscated in prisons over five years – a rate of four a day.
Figures from the Prison Service show a clamp-down on phones in jails has enjoyed increasing success in recent years.
In 2010, 1718 phones were confiscated, reduced to a little over 1,300 in 2011.
Last year the figure was just over 800.
Wayne Dundon, who ordered a hit on businessman Roy Collins from jail, was found guilty of murder this week.
