There has been a significant increase in the number of mortgage holders who are more than 90 days behind on repayments.
Figures from the Central Bank show 8.1% of residential mortgage accounts, or 62,970 households, were at least three months in arrears by the end of September, up from 7.2% (55,763) at the end of June.
A total of 69,735 mortgage accounts had been restructured by the end of September. Roughly half of those are meeting the terms of the restructuring deal. The rest - 33,359 accounts - are in arrears .
The report also shows that in the three months to the end of September, mortgage lenders applied to the courts to enforce the debt on 89 occasions. A total of 125 court proceedings were concluded in the three months, with repossession or sale orders granted in 76 cases.
Some 162 properties were taken into possession by the lenders during the three months.
