A 65-year-old man has appeared in court charged with indecently assaulting two boys in a Westmeath school 28 years ago.

A 65-year-old man has appeared in court charged with indecently assaulting two boys in a Westmeath school 28 years ago.

Brother Thomas McCarry, with an address at Clareville, Finglas Road, Glasnevin in Dublin, faces 18 charges relating to two separate boys at the CBS primary school in Mullingar between 1984 and 1985.

He has been remanded on bail to appear before Mullingar District Court again on April 11 when a book of evidence is due to be served.

The Director of Public Prosecutions has directed that the case be sent forward to the Circuit Court.
