584 patients remain on trolleys
The overall number of people waiting on trolleys has dropped slightly since yesterday, but some hospitals have more patients on trolleys today.
The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation says 584 patients are waiting on wards and trolleys, 415 of whom are on trolleys, yesterday the overall figure was 601.
A number of Dublin hospitals including Connolly Hospital and Tallaght Hospital have more patients on trolleys today than yesterday.
The Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, Brendan Howlin, said the HSE is working to find nursing home beds for 600 patients who can't be sent home;
"There are about 600 people in hospital in acute beds who shouldn't be there," the Minister said, "but there isn't a place for them to be discharged to."
"And there's about 600 people looking for those beds. So we need to match up those - we need to find suitable set-down beds for those 600 people to be discharged fro the acute hospital sector.
"That is the priority of the HSE now."
The Minister for Health, Leo Varadkar, is expected to make a statement on the crisis at some point today.
