€4m in misappropriated Uganda aid reimbursed
The Department of Foreign Affairs has said €4m of misappropriated Irish funds have been reimbursed.
All Irish aid to Uganda was suspended last October after the monies were found to have been misappropriated by officials within the office of the Prime Minister there.
However today the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Eamon Gilmore said restitution had been made following high-level discussions.
Officials from the Department are to examine options for a support programme for Uganda this year.
Mr Gilmore said he was satisfied the steps that had been taken sent a clear signal of commitment to bring those involved to account.
