364km in a bikini for body awareness

The end of a 364 kilometre journey from The North to the South-East of Ireland is almost in sight for a woman who's walked every step of the way in a bikini.

Bettie Marie Burger Smit took on the daunting challenge in the hopes of raising awareness for "BodyWhys" a charity that works to support people suffering with eating disorders.

She began her task in Belfast on May 5, and is expected to stroll into Wexford town this afternoon at around 4pm.

Reflecting on the past two weeks, Bettie Marie said she just wanted to raise awareness of positive self image.

"I wouldn't have body issues, really- I'm not just your typical poster child for this, because I'm 5'11" and not exactly small - I fill some space," she said.

"But I just want to get there … I want to get it over and done with, and hopefully have done some good."
