€150m redevelopment for ESB offices approved

ESB plans to redevelop its headquarters in Dublin have been given the green light.

The building on Fitzwilliam Square is to be demolished and redeveloped at a cost of €150m.

The construction of the current building caused controversy when it was built nearly 50 years ago after a number of 18th Century houses were knocked to make way for it.

A plan to reconstruct those facades has now been dropped, with plans for a "respectful" modern building to be erected.
