12 rescued by Lough Derg Lifeboat after 2 cruisers run aground

People are again being reminded to stay safe on the water, after the Lough Derg Lifeboat rescued 12 people today in two back to back callouts.

The Lifeboat first assisted a family of 7 - three adults and four children - after their 40ft cruiser ran aground at the Goat Road.

All occupants were wearing their lifejackets - the boat was towed to safe water and was able to make its own way to Dromineer.

As the Lifeboat was returning, it assisted a family of five - two adults and three children - whose 35ft cruiser had run aground by Ryan's Point.

Lifejackets were distributed to those who had none and the cruiser was also towed to safety before continuing on its way.

The RNLI says people should carry enough lifejackets for everyone on board, ensure they wear them, and study their navigational charts.
