A new survey shows that 1,114 minor road incidents caused delays or resulted in drivers having to take a different route in 2012.
The data compiled by AA Roadwatch also shows crashes were more likely to occur on busy routes when drivers were in a hurry during rush hour times.
Dublin was the biggest offender with almost 400 minor accidents recorded, followed by Cork with 97, Wicklow with 71 and Galway clocking up 67.
Waterford lagged significantly behind with just over 20 incidents.
Head of AA Roadwatch Aoife Carragher said it was not possible to compile an exact figure of minor crashes.
"These are the figures we've compiled that impacted on travel times," she said. "It's not to say these are all the incidents that occurred on the roads, because there are of course many incidents that we never hear about."
