€106m set aside to fix roads damaged in recent floods

€106m is being allocated to repair damage to transport infrastructure from the recent severe weather.

The funding is being provided to address the needs of Local Authorities across the country, after recent floods destroyed roads and bridges.

Minister for Transport Paschal Donohoe said the money would be made available immediately.

"My Department will contact all local authorities across the country (and) ask them to come back to us with an itemised list of projects they believe need to be done to repair damage caused by storms," he said.

"When that is shared with us, we will make the funding available."

He said local roads all over the country had been badly damaged by heavy rain in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, farmers in areas worst hit by recent floods are being given further support.

The Minister for Agriculture, Simon Coveney, has introduced an Emergency Flood Damage Relief scheme.

It will provide financial assistance to cover uninsured costs from livestock being lost to the floods.

Assistance will also be provided to cover the rental costs incurred where livestock had to be moved off farms and into alternative premises due to potential welfare issues.

It will also extend to damage to certain structures and fittings.
