New Features

Welcome to your new-look breakingnews.ie!

This redesign has allowed us to preserve the most popular elements of the site such as immediate and easy access to today’s breaking stories, as well as improving navigation, highlighting our video clips and adding new features that allow you, our readers, to:

  • Send us pictures, videos, reviews and comments
  • Rent DVDs
  • Watch movie trailers
  • Discuss the stories that interest you with a group of friends that you choose.

Details on all these new features are below. In the meantime, we thank those of you who participated in our pre-design reader survey – your comments helped us make crucial decisions on the redesign. We hope you will tell us what you think of the new site us through our feedback facility here .

New features:

Send us your pictures and videos

This new facility allows all our readers to send us pictures and video on any news or sports topic, so we hope you’ll get your camera or phone out and send us some! We’re looking for pictures and video from events, rather than personal snaps. A striking landscape picture, or one showing unusual weather conditions, is as likely to be published as pictures from a protest march, soccer match or other news or sports event. Please make sure to include a caption telling us where and when the picture was taken.

Since we’re publishers of this content, we need for legal reasons to take a look at all content before it’s published on the site. There will therefore be a (at most) 24-hour delay between receiving pictures and their going live on the site. We don’t guarantee the publication of every picture, but will aim to get as many live as possible.

Sending a picture or video? Please see our >Guidelines and >Terms pages.

Rent DVDs

We’ve teamed up with Ireland’s leading postal DVD rental service, Screenclick.com, to make it easy for you to rent movies to watch at home. Just select the movies you want to see and they’ll be posted out to you – no contracts, no late fees, no delivery charges and all the latest releases. Click here to read more.

Watch movie trailers

We have reviews every week for that week’s new cinema releases – and now, you can watch the trailers too! See the links to individual reviews and trailers on our entertainment page at http://www.breakingnews.ie/entertainment

Agree or disagree with our reviewer? We’d love to hear what you think of the new movies – each of our reviews will have a facility below it for you to send us your own review.

As publishers of all the content on our site, we need for legal reasons to take a look at all content before it’s published on the site. Your reviews will be sent straight to a dedicated email address in our newsroom and be looked at before they’re published. There will therefore be a (at most) 24-hour delay between receiving your reviews and their going live on the site. We will aim to get as many of your reviews on the site as possible, as soon as possible.

Send us your match reports and comments

We’d like as many voices as possible contributing to our sports section and invite you all to send us your match previews / reviews and comments. Selected news stories throughout the site will also provide the facility for you to send us your comments. The need to look at all contributions before they go live means we can’t attach this facility to every story, but we’ll make it as widespread as possible.

Discuss stories with your friends

Our Email+ facility allows you to create an instant private discussion with others about BreakingNews.ie stories and pictures. You send on a story link to a chosen number of recipients and start the discussion from there.

Comments come straight to your Email+ inbox and you choose who takes part in the discussion.

You’ll see a link to Email+ on every story – there’s a short, free registration process at the outset, but you’ll only have to do that once.

We plan to add more facilities in the weeks and months ahead and, as ever, welcome your comments and suggestions here .
