Victoria Beckham sells her personal wardrobe

Victoria Beckham will put more than 600 items from her personal wardrobe up for sale.

In partnership with designer outlet store TheOutnet.com and famed auctioneers Christie's, who valued the items, the singer-turned-designer has placed hundreds of her own clothes, shoes and accessories online in aid of women's charity, mothers2mothers.

Announcing the news Victoria tweeted:

On the official Outnet site, the 40-year-old fashion icon explained how she became involved with the charity - which aims to end mother-to-child HIV transmission - after travelling to South Africa.

"In February this year I visited South Africa for a project that I was working on with Anna Wintour. It was on that trip that I met Mitch Besser, founder of mothers2mothers, and the Mentor Mothers, who are the most remarkable women I have ever met,” she shared.

"I came back from South Africa and thought, what can I do to help? I started going through my closet and found so many great pieces that I've worn and thought, maybe I can raise money by auctioning these off. Working with The Outnet has been so exciting for me - I just want to do whatever I can do."

Included in the sale is a form-fitting Antonio Beradi dress which Victoria wore in 2008 to see best friend Katie Holmes in a theatre production, a fawn coloured dress by Roland Mouret, an acid bright Roberto Cavalli gown from the pre-World Cup party in 2006 and an optical illusion dress by Alexander McQueen from 2006, among many others.

Going through her extensive wardrobe proved to be an emotional experience for the mother of four, who had many memories attached to her designer clothes.

"Every single piece that I have put in to be sold brought back a lot of memories a lot of really, really happy memories of myself and David, of myself and the children, of different events I've been to, and a lot of these have been made especially for me by the designers, these haven't all been bought off of the shelf.

"People have asked, 'Aren't I keeping a lot of these pieces for Harper?' I'm keeping a few pieces but for me it was more important to raise money for this charity."

Victoria also tweeted support charity bracelets in for unaids:

“Please help myself, David, Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper support #UNAIDS”

Keep up the good work VB!

The sale will be available on the TheOutnet.com from August 20 to 25.
