Van Morrison to play at Limerick Jazz Festival

Van Morrison to play at Limerick Jazz Festival

Limerick Jazz Festival has announced Van Morrison as part of its programme for its third year.

Morrison and renowned US saxophonist David Sanborn are part of a line-up that aims to be “the most exciting collection of artists and performances assembled for any jazz festival in the country this year”, according to organisers.

“Having two multi Grammy award winners in Limerick in one weekend is indeed a rare event in itself and Limerick Jazz is delighted with this,” said John Daly, chairman of Limerick Jazz Society.

Morrison will play what is likely to be his only live performance in the country this year at the Limerick festival, with a gig in the University Concert Hall kicking off the three-day programme on Thursday, September 25. Tickets go on sale this Thursday at 10am, so be quick!

Multiple Grammy award winner Sanborn will play the Lime Tree Theatre on Saturday, September 27.

“It’s fair to say that we have assembled the best line-up of jazz artists ever in Limerick and, we believe, the best in Ireland this year,” said John.

“Our headline acts this year are huge draws," said John. "Having Van on board, not least given it will be his only performance in the country this year, is something we are thrilled about and we are indebted to Eoghan Prendergast and the Limerick Marketing Company for their assistance in getting this across the line,” he added.

Other acts on the bill include The Dublin City Jazz Orchestra, Nigel Mooney and Richie Buckley. It will have a strong supporting programme of free events, including a late night jazz trail in city centre pubs, restaurants and hotels and daytime concerts and masterclasses in venues such as the Hunt Museum and the Limerick City Gallery of Art.

And just something to get us in the mood.
