Spare a thought for Kevin Costner whose career seems now to comprise one step forward and one back … this is the backward step.
It’s a story we’ve all seen in various guises many times: the past-it US Navy swim rescue hero with a troubled past, now reduced to a training instructor with much bark and bite (Costner) meets determined recruit (Kutcher) and we get to see how their relationship develop.
Why should we care?
There’s nothing new or exciting enough about the plodding story to raise us from the shallow end.
