Superman treatment for Paradise Lost20/04/2006 - 17:41:53
Milton’s Paradise Lost, one of English literature’s most famous works, is being turned into a Hollywood film.
The movie is being developed by Legendary Pictures, the production company behind the likes of Superman Returns and Batman Begins, according to film bible Variety.
Milton’s epic poem revolves around the fall of man and the classic battle of good versus evil.
Written in 1667, it tells the story of the temptation of Adam and Eve and their expulsion from the Garden of Eden.
Scott Derrickson, known for The Exorcism of Emily Rose, is on board to direct and will help develop the screenplay, according to Variety.
Paradise Lost has a “timeless theme along with an inherently powerful and visual dramatic story“, Jon Jashni, chief creative officer of Legendary Pictures, said.
“We are excited by the challenge of going back to the source material.”
No timetable for the film has yet been set, with Thomas Tull, Legendary Pictures’ chairman, adding: “Given the gravity of the source material, it’s really important to get it right. It will be ready when it’s ready.”
