A US general with knowledge of the Allied plans for D-Day is captured by Nazi forces and taken to a heavily fortified fortress in the Alps.
In response, an elite team of British soldiers, and one American recruit, are sent on a mission to bring him home. But the task is made more difficult by a traitor in their midst.
This Alistair MacLean-penned Second World War drama is a well-paced, action-packed adventure of the old school variety.
The film never fails to deliver on everything one would expect to find in a war film, yet avoids becoming mired in cliches. The pairing of Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood is a masterstroke, and the score will stick in your head almost as long as the quotable dialogue.

The UK Championship has long been regarded as the second most prestigious ranking tournament on the snooker calendar, and the event reaches a conclusion this evening at the Barbican Centre in York with the second session of the final.
Mark Selby has been involved in the last two finals, and his appearance last year bucked a trend that has cursed the defending champions over the last decade.
The Jester from Leicester was the first holder to reach the final for a second successive year since Mark Williams in 2000, although his hopes of back-to-back triumphs were dashed by Neil Robertson, who became only the eighth player in history to win all of the Triple Crown events at least once.
Selby and Robertson started among the favourites once again, along with the likes of Ding Junhui and Ronnie O’Sullivan, with the players needing to reach 10 frames to claim the prestigious prize.

Jean-Claude Van Damme and director Peter Hyams are a good team, as they proved with Timecop and Sudden Death. This high-octane action thriller could have done with a little more freshness in the originality department, but it’s worth one look.

Ten years after Kentucky Blood became a best-seller and brought him notoriety, novelist Ellison Oswalt moves to a leafy community with his wife Tracy and children Trevor and Ashley.
The father neglects to mention to his brood that the previous owners of the house came to an unfortunate end, and the sole survivor – a little girl - disappeared without trace.
In the attic, Ellison is intrigued to discover a box of Super 8 home movies. As he watches the shocking footage in the privacy of his office, the writer connects brutal murders across the country and senses a potential movie deal.

Brian Hartnett is a DJ, who developed schizophrenia as a consequence of sustained drug use in his twenties. He started to hear voices in his head, often aggressive ones. But then, a new voice appeared which he believes to be Jesus.
Part of him knows that this is his “madness” talking, and yet he still finds this presence profoundly inspiring and positive. For him, the choice to listen to his voices, rather than trying to banish them, has helped him to reconcile his two conflicting worlds of psychosis and reality.
He now helps others do the same through the advocacy group he founded.
