Sundance award for Irish documentary The Summit
An Irish documentary has scooped one of the top prizes at the Sundance Film Festival in the US, known as the Oscars for independent film-makers.
The award for editing has gone to 'The Summit', a documentary that tells the tragic story of Irish climber Ger McDonnell, who was killed attempting to climb K2 along with his fellow mountaineers.
Producer Olivia Leahy told 98FM in Dublin that their film caught the judges' attention by "telling the story from each of the climbers' points of view, and keeping the emotion in it, that people died on the mountain that day, as well as all the controversies."
'The Summit' has its Irish premiere at the Jameson Dublin Film Festival on February 24.
