Shayne goes live with Christmas hit bid
X-Factor winner Shayne Ward will today launch his bid to take the Christmas Number One slot with a live performance of the single in his home city of Manchester.
Shayne is expected to sing the new song “That’s My Goal” before hundreds of fans at the Arndale Centre.
The appearance is timed to coincide with release of the new single, which goes on sale today.
He was crowned the victor in Saturday’s nailbiting final, pushing binman Andy Abraham into second place.
The 21-year-old will perform three tracks during a half-hour appearance as part of his promotional tour for the single.
Bookies have tipped the song to clinch the Christmas Number One spot, snatching it from current chart topper the JCB Song.
The Christmas chart falls on Christmas Day for the first time this year since 1994, when East 17 won the battle with Stay Another Day.
Girls Aloud, Eminem, a re-release of the Pogues and Kirsty MacColl classic Fairytale Of New York, Westlife and Robbie Williams are all competing for this year’s prestigious top spot.
Shayne will appear at the shopping centre at 10.30am and the event will be broadcast live on local radio station Key 103.
His record label Sony BMG has sent out more than 700,000 copies of the single and hopes to cash in on the seasonal spending boom.
The CD has been dispatched to music stores across the country, and HMV has placed one of its largest pre-orders of the year.
Shayne said: “I can’t wait to get to Manchester to perform for my fans and say thank you to everyone who voted for me in The X-Factor.
“I want them to know how grateful I am for making my dream come true. Look forward to seeing you Manchester!”
“That’s My Goal” was penned by song-writing trio Eloffson, Padley and Godfrey who have written hits for artists including Britney Spears, Back Street Boys, Westlife and Will Young.
The single was rushed into production the moment Shayne was announced the winner of the show.
