Sand sculptures to take over Dublin Castle courtyard
22/07/2010 - 12:32:17Sand sculpture group Duthain Dealbh will take over the upper courtyard of Dublin Castle for the month of August to transform 80 tonnes of sand into carvings.
The sculpture group, whose name means 'Fleeting Sculpture', will carve four sculptures around the theme of Vikings, to complement the Dublin Viking Festival which takes place on August 21 and 22.
It takes four days to soak, compact and harden the sand into large blocks, making it more resistant and durable before the sculptors start to chip away to "find the sculptures inside", the group said today.
