R&B star backs Clark

'The X Factor's Rylan Clark has been backed by Ne-Yo.

The eccentric vocalist has met with a backlash after he scraped through to the next round of the competition on Sunday - leaving Carolynne Poole to be eliminated - but the R&B star can see Rylan's potential.

Ne-Yo - who met Rylan when he joined mentor Nicole Scherzinger in Dubai at the Judges' Houses stage of the competition – told BANG Showbiz: "I don't regret helping Nicole put him through at all. I feel like what Rylan is and what he does - there's a place for that in the business. Not all music is about how well someone can sing, some music is just about having fun. I feel like that's the sort of thing he can do and I feel like there's a place for it."

As well as being a singer and songwriter, Ne-Yo also works for Motown records, and even offered to write a track for Rylan.

He added London's Choice radio station: "I'm a singer but I'm also senior vice-president of A&R for Motown Records. So I'm an executive as well.

"I have to understand that just because I wouldn't personally rock it in my car doesn't mean that there's not a place for it in the music industry.

"I don't know about featuring on one of his singles but I'd definitely write one for him."
