Let's just say, they don't know what the song is about.

Queen respond to claim 'Bohemian Rhapsody' is about Freddie Mercury coming out

Queen have rubbished claims 'Bohemian Rhapsody' is about Freddie Mercury coming out as gay.

The legendary rock band will soon celebrate the 40th anniversary of their 1975 hit, and have denied that the rock-opera anthem was the late Freddie's way of admitting he was gay.

Responding to the claims made by biographer Lesley Ann-Jones, guitarist Brian May said: "What's it about? None of us know.

"Freddie never talked about it to my knowledge and didn't want to and that's the way it should be.

"He had something in his mind and he loved to spin these little pieces of magic. A little bit of reality and little bit of fantasy."

Speculation surrounding the song's meaning centres on the lyrics.

Mama, I just killed a man

Put a gun against his head,

pulled my trigger, now he's dead.

According to Lesley, the words symbolised Freddie killing off his heterosexual self.

However, Brian has insisted the lyrics of the chart-topping single are impossible to decipher.

He told the BBC: "If anyone tries to unravel it, they'll never manage it because they'll never know what went into those lyrics."

Meanwhile, bandmate Roger Taylor, 66, also admitted he doesn't understand the meaning of the song.

He said: "What does it mean? I get asked that all the time and I have no answer."
