Pure imagination! New Willy Wonka movie in the works from Harry Potter producer
A new film focusing on the early life of Charlie And The Chocolate Factory star Willy Wonka is reported to be in the works.
And if that news wasn’t exciting enough, it has been hinted that the team behind the Harry Potter movies will be bringing the new film to life.
According to Variety, producer David Heyman is teaming up with Warner Bros to revive the beloved Roald Dahl character, who is included in the author’s books Charlie And The Chocolate Factory and Charlie And The Great Glass Elevator.
The role was made famous on the big screen by the late Gene Wilder in 1971 and Johnny Depp in 2005.
The wonderfully eccentric chocolate factory owner will have a new backstory and will be a “standalone” tale looking at the adventures from his younger days.
The site claims that David – who has also worked on Harry Potter offshoot Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them – will produce the film with the manager of the Roald Dahl Estate Michael Siegel.
It has also been suggested that if the movie performs well, it could turn into another Hollywood franchise.
Gene, the original Willy Wonka in film, passed away at the age of 83 in August.
