Obama admits to 'frumpy' fashion tastes

US President Barack Obama has admitted he is "a little frumpy".

The American leader made the confession after his decision to wear loose-fitting denim jeans to a baseball game last week was ridiculed.

Barack said: "Those jeans are comfortable! And for those of you who want your president to look great in his tight jeans, I'm sorry, I'm not the guy.

"They just don't fit me, I am not 20!"

Fashion critics branded Barack's baggy trousers "dad jeans" and "nerd jeans" when he threw out the first pitch at the All-Star baseball game.

The 48-year-old politician went on to reveal his wife Michelle often teases him about his clothes, adding he was reluctant to dress smartly until recently.

Barack added in an interview with US TV show 'Today': "Here is my attitude - Michelle looks fabulous. Up until a few years ago I only had four suits. Michelle used to tease me because they'd get really shiny. I hate to shop."

In stark contrast to her denim-clad spouse, Michelle has been heralded as a style icon since Barack began his campaign to move into the White House.

The 45-year-old lawyer thrilled the fashion world by wearing a white, one-shouldered gown created by Jason Wu for the Inauguration Day ball in January.

Michelle regularly wears designs by Calvin Klein, Oscar de la Renta, Narciso Rodriguez and Donna Ricco.

In March, she appeared on the front cover of US Vogue magazine.

The First Lady was also included on Vanity Fair magazine's international best dressed list and the 2008 People magazine's list of best-dressed women.
