Michelle fancies a crack at Hollywood

Outgoing Coronation Street star Michelle Keegan has said she hopes to launch a career in the US – and is already trying to master different accents.

The 26-year-old from Stockport will be seen in her final scenes in the ITV soap next week, with viewers seeing her plunge to her death, sparking a murder hunt for the killer of her character Tina McIntyre.

Speaking as viewers prepare for her final days on screen, she said she would like to have a crack at Hollywood, if only to stop her having regrets in later life.

She said: “I would like to go to America just to try so I don’t look back and think ’what if’, but we’ll see.

“It does appeal but I’ve been so busy here I haven’t had time to think about that.

“I’m doing dialect coaching at the moment so it’s getting my head around that. Doing different characters, doing different accents.”

Keegan – who is engaged to ITV presenter Mark Wright – said she struggled to cope with her nerves and burst into tears as she worked on Tina’s climactic scenes in which she had to plummet from a balcony.

“I watched the stuntwoman do it first of all and she fell back on to boxes and I watched that and thought ’oh God’. The stunt coordinator said you’ve just got to do it.

“He counted down and got to two and I started crying. I was crying my eyes out. I’ve always been scared of heights. I get vertigo. I just couldn’t do it. Eventually the stuntwoman came up and said you’ve got to do it slowly.”

Her death fall will be seen in the edition of Coronation Street to be screened on May 27.
