Rowling accosted by religious radical

21/11/2007 - 11:30:21
Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling was left "stunned" after a terrifying confrontation with a Christian fundamentalist in front of her children.

The mother-of-three was shopping in a toy store with Jessica, 14, David, four, and Mackenzie, two, when the American zealot approached the author.

She says: "One time I was face to face with such a person. I was in a toy store with my children and was recognised by a girl who got all excited. The next thing that happened was a man came up to me and said, 'Aren't you that Potter woman?'

"Then he brought his face close to me and said, very aggressively, 'I pray for you every evening.' I should have said he'd better pray for himself but I was stunned."

And the 42-year-old says the "frightening" incident has put her off all religious extremists, who claim the Harry Potter novel series glorify witchcraft.

She adds: "I want nothing to do with fundamentalism of any sort. It scares me."
