'Lucky' Ross brings down curtain on chat show

Jonathan Ross said he was "grateful, lucky and honoured" to have worked at the BBC as he recorded his last chat show for the corporation.

Jonathan Ross said he was "grateful, lucky and honoured" to have worked at the BBC as he recorded his last chat show for the station.

As the recording drew to a close the star thanked all the guests who had appeared during the programme's 10 year run, saying: "At least 95% of them were great."

He added: "It's been a remarkable period of my TV career, being here at the BBC - I've worked with just about the best crew and I hope you all know how much it's meant to me to have you guys here because I've felt supported ... you're just the best people.

"Everyone here at the BBC has always been terrific ... I've been lucky to work over the 10 years with the most fabulous teams.

"The experience I've had here at the BBC has been a blessed one.

"I've never come in here feeling anything other than grateful, lucky and honoured .. so thank you."

As he started the show for the last time, he admitted: "I promised Morrissey I wasn't going to cry."

It was announced last week that the star signed a deal to present a chat show for ITV.

He will begin his new series, which will air in a peak-time slot, late next year.

His long-running Radio 2 show will also end this month.

David Beckham was among the guests on the last 'Friday Night With Jonathan Ross', which airs at 10.35pm tomorrow on BBC1.

The footballer refused to blame Fabio Capello for England's disastrous performance in the World Cup, telling Ross the Italian was "one of the most intelligent and gifted managers in football".

The LA Galaxy midfielder also spoke about his trip to visit British troops in Afghanistan.

He said: "Everybody needs to realise what these guys are doing, we should be really proud.

"I want to raise awareness, raise money for the families who've lost their loved ones.

"A lot of them said they feel like they're forgotten. I said none of you will ever be forgotten - they're doing the most amazing job I've ever witnessed."

The programme will also feature a performance by Roxy Music.
