Louis Walsh blasts 'Strictly Come Dancing' bosses

Louis Walsh has blasted ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ bosses.

The ‘X Factor’ star said bosses of the rival BBC show made a “huge mistake” sacking choreographer Arlene Philips from the judging panel of the ballroom dancing show.

He also reckons the move will only increase ratings for his ITV show – which will go head to head with ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ on Saturday nights in September.

Louis said: “They’ve made a massive mistake sacking Arlene. She knows more about dancing than anyone else.”

A source told Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper: “‘X Factor’ think replacing Arlene is incredible and could drive disgruntled viewers to them instead.”

The BBC has received over 1,500 complaints over their decision to replace Arlene with pop singer Alesha Dixon – who, at 30, is less than half her age. Although she doesn’t come from a traditional dance background, Alesha won the show when she was a contestant in 2007.

The source added: “X Factor thinks it’s funny they’ve brought in Alesha to attract younger viewers. Most young people aren’t drawn to ballroom dancing. Nothing will change that.”

Yesterday it was reported celebrity presenters Sharon Osbourne and Richard Madeley had pulled out of negotiations to compete on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ after their appearance fee was cut by the broadcaster.
