Private buyer snaps up U2 photographs
Rare early photographs of U2 which were withdrawn from sale finally found a home tonight.
A spokeswoman for James Adams Salesrooms on Dublin’s Stephen’s Green said the photos had been sold to an anonymous bidder.
“A number of bidders contacted the auction house this morning following the media coverage and an offer was accepted by the vendor for the reserve price €8,000,” she said.
The collection of four prints by the world-renowned photographer Anton Corbijn were withdrawn from sale last night after failing to reach the reserve price.
One of Corbijn’s signed photographs of the band sold for €12,000 late last year.
The previously unseen black and white pictures feature the four members of U2 - Bono, The Edge, Larry Mullen and Adam Clayton – and the child, Peter Rowen, who featured on the band’s Boy and War albums in the early 1980s.
The prints are accompanied by a hand written note to Bono from Corbijn, who has been credited with helping form the band’s early image.
They were owned by Peter Rowen, aka Radar, the young man who featured on U2’s most iconic early album covers.
