Jones would have entered 'The X Factor'
The Welsh singer Tom Jones admits he would have entered the UK TV talent show ‘The X Factor’ when he was in his youth because of the potential “exposure” it gives an artist, but he isn’t sure if it is good for the music industry.
He said: “I would definitely have tried out for those talent shows. I would have done ‘X Factor’. You get huge exposure on those programmes.
“But whether it’s a good thing or a bad thing, I don’t know because those kids are thrown in at the deep end. Sometimes these kids are singing in front of millions of people before they’ve even got a record contract. But you have to take those opportunities.”
Discussing his own voice, 70-year-old Tom believes his singing ability has got better as he has aged.
He added to The Sun newspaper: “I let my voice speak for itself. It’s still going strong, thank God.
“As I’ve gotten older it’s become richer. It’s also got lower. I’ve gone from a tenor to a baritone.”
