Here's 'every song' Kanye West has sampled, in one place
Some of Kanye West’s most iconic songs wouldn’t be what they are without the use of sampling – that’s just a fact.
Whether it was Chaka Khan’s influence on Through The Wire, Curtis Mayfield’s sample on Touch The Sky or more recently Sister Nancy on Famous, Kanye’s always been able to take great songs and re-purpose snippets to make something wholly different.
Now every song he’s sampled on his own solo albums is available in one place.
With some, like Walter “Junie” Morrison’s Suzie Thundertussy or Otis Redding’s It’s Too Late, the sample is immediately obvious.
Others are harder to identify. The Blackjack song below formed a central part of the Never Let You Down instrumental, but you really have to listen to realise.
The great thing about the collection is that it’s in chronological order.
So while samples Kanye used to produce beats for other artists’ albums may not be included, we can see the evolution of the types of songs Kanye was listening to and turning towards for inspiration as his career progressed – starting mainly with soul and then diving into anything and everything.
