Girls Aloud star sent for trial
Singer Cheryl Tweedy of pop band Girls Aloud was today sent for trial for an alleged racial attack on a night-club attendant.
The 19-year-old star appeared before Guildford Magistrates in Surrey, England accused of racially aggravated assault on 39-year-old toilet attendant and part-time law student, Sophie Amogbokpa.
Tweedy, of Heaton, Newcastle, who was dressed in a pastel pink jacket, shirt and blue jeans, denied the charges.
She spoke only to confirm her name, age and address during the five-minute hearing.
The case was adjourned by Chairman of the Bench, Sue Urquhart for a plea and directions hearing at Guildford Crown Court on July 11.
Tweedy was released on conditional bail and driven off in a black people carrier.
The alleged attack is said to have happened at The Drink night-club in Guildford on January 11 this year.
Tweedy, a member of the girl band created from the ITV show, Pop Stars The Rivals, has always denied the allegations.
