Festival winner disappoints

Jasmila Zbanic’s Esma’s Secret (Grbavica) (Dogwolf Pictures, €22.99) won the Golden Bear at Berlin Film Festival in 2006, but it is somewhat disappointing.

Sema (Mirjana Karanovic) and her daughter Sara (Luna Mijovic) eke out a living in post-war Sarajevo, trying to find a future that’s overshadowed by the past.

It’s interesting up to a point, but ultimately is too slight to hold your attention.
