‘The Crimson Wing: Mystery of the Flamingos’ for the birds

Directors: Leander Ward/Matthew Aeberhard

Cert: PG

While you cannot deny that flamingos are beautiful to look at – all pink feathers and knobbly
knees – this attempt to make them interesting seems like a lost cause.

The documentary tries to do for flamingos what several other films have done for penguins but
misses the point that all flamingos do is gather in very large flocks and get on with their
rather pointless lives … much like humans what with the hatches, matches and dispatches, the
squabbles, the constant search for something to eat.

A brave attempt, but a film that doesn’t go anywhere.
