Estate pulls Jackson's deathbed from auction
Michael Jackson's deathbed has been pulled from auction.
The late singer's estate stepped in and asked Julien's Auctions to remove the grisly item - which had a pre-sale start price of between $3,000 and $5,000 - from going under the hammer.
The queen-sized headboard was previously removed from the auction, but the mattress was reportedly never on sale because it was taken away for evidence when the 'Thriller' hitmaker died from acute Propofol intoxication in June 2009 aged 50.
A number of items from Michael's rented mansion - located at 100 North Carolwood Drive in Los Angeles – where he spent his final hours are set to go on sale at the auction house's gallery on Wilshire Boulevard on December 17, including high-priced paintings by Maurice Utrillo and Henri Rosseau, candles and silverware.
A kitchen chalkboard with a handwritten note which reads "I [heart] Daddy. SMILE, it's for free," written in childlike text - which is thought to have been penned by one of Michael's three children, Prince, 14, Paris, 13, and ‘Blanket’, nine, who were also living at the house – is also set to go under the hammer.
Darren Julien, president of Julien's Auctions, said: "We want to preserve the history of these items."
Michael's personal physician Dr. Conrad Murray was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in relation to the King of Pop’s death earlier this month.
