'Doctor Who' will show the whole of the Tardis for the first time.

The hit BBC sci-fi drama will finally give fans a full glimpse inside the Time Lord's famous time travelling machine - which is notoriously bigger on the inside than it looks from the outside - in a new episode called 'Journey to the Centre of the Tardis'.

Series producer Steven Moffat said: "We've built the rest of the Tardis. The idea is in the title - we're going to journey to the centre of the Tardis. We've got some great visuals for that."

Viewers have previously only seen the Tardis' control room, which was given a revamp by production designer Michael Pickwoad for the Christmas special last year, and Michael is also responsible for the new interiors which will be featured in the episode.

In the past, the Time Lord, currently played by Matt Smith, has made reference to his time machine - which looks like an old police phone box from the outside - consisting of a swimming pool, toilet block and a walk-in wardrobe.

The episode is scheduled to air in late April as part of the new series, which will see the Doctor joined by new companion Clara, played by Jenna-Louise Coleman.

'Doctor Who' returns to BBC One on March 30.
