'Dancing on Ice' tour hits the skids

The 'Dancing on Ice' tour has been scrapped.

Bosses of the ITV skating show have axed the money-making tour – which has previously seen celebrity contestants, including 'Hollyoaks' beauty Jorgie Porter and Coronation Street's Chris Fountain, earn thousands from performing their routines on the road – because of the recession, which has come as a "real blow" to the stars.

A source told The Sun newspaper: “This is a real blow to the celebrities.

“The competition is stressful so it’s the tour they look forward to, where they aren’t facing the pressure of getting through to the next week.

“Also, they get paid a lot of money to go on tour which they’re all missing out on.”

However, ITV look set to resurrect the tour – which usually takes place throughout April and May - in 2014 following a number of fan complaints.

A source said: “It was thought that with the recession, the tour wouldn’t be a great idea. But, actually, fans are really missing it.”

Current 'Dancing on Ice' contestant Shayne Ward admits he is disappointed there will not be a tour this year for stars of the programme to show off their talents up and down the country, but he thinks a one-off show at the end of the series would be better than nothing.

He explained: "It’s a shame about the tour. But it would be great to do something to celebrate the series, even if it’s one show.”

A source added: “A number of ideas are being looked at.”
