'Dad's Army' star Dunn dies
'Dad's Army' star Clive Dunn has died aged 92.
The actor - who is best known for his role as Lance-Corporal Jones in the BBC sit-com - passed away in Portugal following complications from an operation he had earlier this week.
His agent Peter Charlesworth confirmed the star's death and insisted he will be "sorely missed".
He said: "He will be a real loss to the acting profession."
Dunn joined the cast of 'Dad's Army' at the age of 48 and his character Jones' staunch socialist beliefs often caused him to have hilarious fall outs with the pompous Captain Mainwaring (Arthur Lowe).
He had some of the most memorable catchphrases in the show, including "Don't panic!", "They don't like it up 'em" and "Permission to speak, sir".
During his time in the series, the actor also achieved a number one single with the song 'Grandad' in January 1971 which he recorded with a children's choir and performed on 'Top of the Pops'.
He also released several other songs including 'My Old Man'.
After 'Dad's Army' ended, Dunn played Charlie Quick in the slapstick children's TV series 'Grandad', from 1979 to 1984.
When the show was cancelled he effectively retired from acting and moved to Portugal with his family.
Since news of his death broke, tributes have started to be left by his fellow actors on social media sites.
Stephen Fry tweeted: "Saddened to hear of the death of Clive Dunn, the immortal Corporal Jones from Dad's Army. RIP (sic)"
Dunn is survived by his wife Priscilla Morgan and two daughters, Jessica and Polly.
