Conduit gave supporters of Tartan Bearer a boost when swooping from last to first in the totesportcasino.com Handicap as Vodafone Derby day got underway on the Epsom Downs.
Representing trainer Sir Michael Stoute, jockey Ryan Moore and owners Ballymacoll Stud, who also rely on leading candidate Tartan Bearer in the Classic, the 11-8 favourite absolutely routed his rivals.
Moore was stone last rounding Tattenham Corner but pulled the son of Dalakhani out for his effort thundering down the straight and the colt rapidly went forward to record a striking six-length success over Ramona Chase.
Ballymacoll Stud’s Peter Reynolds said: “That was a good start to the day and we do have a nice bunch of three-year-old colts.
“He is an improving type and we’ll have to see what the trainer says about plans, but he could go to Royal Ascot.
“He is a close relation to Hard Top so there is no reason why he won’t stay further. He’ll be a nice horse for next year too.”
Sponsors Ladbrokes gave Conduit a 14-1 quote for the St Leger.
