Britney TV show scrapped

US television talk show host “Dr Phil” McGraw has cancelled plans for a one-hour show that was to examine Britney Spears’ latest public meltdown.

In a statement posted on his website today, McGraw said the pop star’s situation was “too intense” for him to proceed with the programme.

He did not say whether he planned to reschedule it at a later date.

Spears was admitted to hospital on Thursday night after a child custody dispute with ex-husband Kevin Federline resulted in an hours-long standoff with police.

On Friday, a court commissioner gave sole custody of the one- and two-year-old boys to Federline.

McGraw said he met Spears for an hour on Saturday before she left the California hospital.
