Bono asks Bush for aid

Campaigning U2 frontman Bono is urging US president George W Bush to donate an extra 1% of America's federal budget to the world's poor.

The Elevation superstar quoted from Christian, Jewish and Islamic texts in a bid to persuade the US leader to increase the aid budget at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington DC on Thursday.

Bono says: "Where you live should no longer determine whether you live."

Bush praised the singer as a "doer" but failed to agree to the $26bn (€21.6bn) plea.
