Blunt treasures time in Kosovo

Singer James Blunt was a cynical soldier when he was sent to Kosovo in 1999, but quickly changed his mind about his mission when he realised he was saving people's lives.

The singer rose to the rank of captain in the British Army and served as an armoured reconnaissance officer in the Nato peacekeeping force in Kosovo.

He says: "At the time, I was very cynical and thought it was just a way to make Tony Blair look good as a statesman.

"But, when I got there, it made sense. It didn't matter what Tony Blair thought - we were trying to save people's lives."
