Asthma the latest theory for Adlington's absence at Bushtucker Trials

Rebecca Adlington’s asthma could be the reason she has missed Bushtucker Trials.

Rebecca Adlington’s asthma could be the reason she has missed Bushtucker Trials.

The double Olympic gold medallist has come under fire from viewers after being exempt from three trials on 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!' and some sources have claimed it is because of the inflammatory disease.

Her aunt Sonia Adlington told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "It's not Becky's choice.

"She wants to do the challenges - even eating grubs - but she is not allowed to do some of them on doctor's orders.

"Years of swimming gave her a medical condition, details of which we've been told not to divulge."

Rebecca's mystery illness has sparked rumours she was pregnant, which her fiance Harry Needs has denied on Twitter.

The blonde's uncle Tony insists the 24-year-old swimmer is just as annoyed as viewers and it's nothing to do with her being claustrophobic.

He said: "She's not happy she's being pulled out of trials. She must be the fittest one in there and it's annoying for her not to get a go.

"Becky wants the public to know why she is being excused. We wish the producers would say the reason. The family know but have been sworn to secrecy."

Studies have suggested a link between the chlorinated water in swimming pools which causes wheezing and shortness of breath.

Rebecca previously said: "I've had asthma since I was little. My type is exercise-induced and it's common in swimmers."

Fans of the ITV show hit out after Rebecca dodged the 'Cave Danger', 'Up To Your Neck In It' and 'Critters' Got Talent' trials this month.

Meanwhile, Rebecca's campmate Kian Egan managed to win the maximum nine stars in last night's 'Cave Danger' trial after overcoming snakes, eels, spiders and cockroaches in water-filled tunnels.
